When to Replace an Asphalt Roof

You will know that an asphalt roof is on its last legs if:

1) You see the shingles curling up at the edges

2) If most of the surface granules have worn off of the shingles

3) If shingles are breaking off in windy conditions.

Most asphalt products typically last 15 years before these problems starts to occur. However, increased fluctuations to the climate (freezing and thawing- Hello, Calgary!) can contribute to the break down and excessive wearing of asphalt shingles.

Regular leaks may or may not indicate that shingles need replacing, and sometimes moisture leaking into a house can be the result of condensation issues. Often times, roof leaks can be pinpointed to one or two repairable flaws in the roof (ie: around valleys where two intersecting roofs meet, or chimneys). However, it is impossible to tell if leaks can be repaired or if you need a complete re-roof without an assessment by one of our qualified technicians.
